A Reason, A Season or a Lifetime
Why Some Friendships Were Never Meant to Last Forever
Friendships are complicated. Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of chaos in the friendships around me—people feeling ghosted, phased out, or simply drifting apart. Over the past few weeks, multiple friends, completely unconnected, reached out to talk about these exact feelings, and it got me thinking: why is this happening?
I’ve lost two friends recently that I never thought I would, and it was shocking. One I think just didn’t like me anymore. The other ghosted me completely. And yet, I know my worth—I know what I bring to the table, and I’m not chasing anyone who doesn’t want to be in my world.
This episode dives into the seasons of friendship: the reason people, the seasonal friends, and the lifetime friends. Reason people challenge us, teach us lessons, and often leave. Seasonal friends are part of a chapter in our lives—sometimes intense, sometimes fleeting—but their presence is meaningful. And then there are the lifetime friends, the people who have seen us at our best, our worst, and are still there no matter what.
I reflect on my own friendships—from the bridesmaids in my wedding to friends I’ve had since childhood—and how life shifts those connections. The data backs it up: we replace half of our friends every seven years according to Female Friendship Coach & Educator, Danielle Bayard Jackson. Accepting that most friendships are seasonal can make letting go easier and help us value the lifetime connections more deeply.
If you’ve felt blindsided by a friendship ending, or are struggling to make sense of why some connections fade while others last, this episode is for you. I share my personal experiences, reflections, and the lessons I’ve learned about holding onto the right friendships, letting go gracefully, and recognizing your own value in every relationship.
